Communication has changed!
As we look at the history of humanity, we see humans communicating to each other with drawings and writings on the walls of the caves they lived in. We can also see ancient stone hieroglyphics on Egyptian tablets. We have historical evidence of ancient peoples writing things on the skins of animals to share sacred text.
Finally paper is invented using the papyrus plant, where words can be placed for future generations to read. For nearly 2,500 years paper was the major means of communication to the masses. Finally the printing press was created and the Guettenburg Bible was developed. Not long after, newspapers began to communicate to the masses the news that needed to be shared.
In the last one hundred years we have seen the greatest number of changes in communication. Adding to the age old newspaper is also the radio, telephone, then television. These four means of communication have been the bread basket of the American news sharing for the past 70 years. Thirty years ago, not many of us could think of it ever changing.
However the television has morphed into 24 hour Cable television, VCR’s, DVD,s and now the new medium is digital viewing through our phones of all things. I don’t know if Alexander Graham Bell would have every thought his invention of the telephone could be so fast, so diverse and so open to the masses of the world.
In the 1970’s and 1980’s the personal computer was developing in our nation to incredible achievements in communication, so that today through the internet we can travel to China in seconds. Partnering with telephone lines and later with satellites that orbit our planet twenty four hours a day, seven days a week we quickly connect the six billion people on the planet.
I share this bit of history with you to tell you that the Osceola United Methodist Church has jumped into the information highway to share with you the gospel message of Jesus Christ. We proudly do this to inform you of all the wonderful things that are happening here at our church. God is moving and we don’t want to miss a thing! Two hundred years ago Methodist Preachers shared their message on horses from town to town. Today this pastor is using the internet to share the same message of hope and good news to his people. It will be interesting what the pastor of tomorrow uses to share the same good news to the people of his flock.
I encourage you to explore and wander through the pages of this wonderfully developed web site about the various family ministries of the Osceola United Methodist Church. Through your “surfing” I hope you can find a home or an activity or two to participate. I want to welcome you and ask that you email me if you have any questions or would just like to talk about Jesus a bit. Thanks for jumping on the site and remember, “God loves you and so do the people of the Osceola United Methodist Church!”
Welcome,
Pastor Bob Vale
